The Heartbeat Of Mother Earth

Up to date on November 19, 2012
Throughout history Native People have been nice storytellers. Theirs is a tradition of oral traditions. of tales handed from era to generation. The telling of stories is alive and well amongst Native People even at this time. To be thought of a teller of tales among Native Folks is an honor. To keep the stories is a sacred trust as some tales marked special occasions comparable to the approaching of age ceremony or when making ready a young man to hunt his vision. Some had been advised at harvest time or before a hunt. The children are taught bout respect and humor, moral character and courage by way of the stories of ravens, coyotes, vegetation, and rocks. There are tales about every ingredient of nature. Native American tradition is one in all great symbolism and mysticism. There are tales of heroes and spirits, tricksters and the supernatural beings. Some of the stories are true stories, passed down from one technology to another. Others are stories of fiction. Although the lessons are comparable, the tales may differ from tribe to tribe.
The Abenaki Individuals and the Legend of the Drum
It is said that when Creator was making ready a place for the Spirits to dwell on Mother Earth, a loud GROWTH was heard within the distance. As Creator listened, the sound got here ever closer until it was current proper in front of Creator. Creator asked - who are you?” I am the Spirit of the Drum”, came the reply. Creator requested of the Spirit of the Drum, What's it you need?” The Spirit of the Drum spoke to Creator, saying I wish to be a part of this excellent factor you are creating.”
After a moment of thought, Creator requested , And what part will you play, Spirit of the Drum?” I wish to accompany the voices of the Folks” replied Spirit of the Drum. Once they sing from their hearts, I will sing too, as if I am the heartbeat of Mom Earth. Then all will sing in concord.”
Creator granted the request of Spirit of the Drum and from that point on, the drum has accompanied the voices of the Individuals.
What the Legend Teaches Us
Amongst all Native American tribes, the drum represents the heartbeat of Mother Earth and is the center of all of the songs. The drum carries the voice of the Individuals to the Eagle who then carries the prayers to the Creator.
At the heart of many Native American tales is the relationship between the human, animal, and spirit worlds. In our human vanity, we regularly flip our backs on the extra delicate lessons that seem to us in the pure world. For instance,
butterfly reveals us that transformation could be lovely
porcupine shows us that we will wear our armor as safety but don't at all times want to make use of it
wolf teaches us that we're stronger collectively than we're alone
bear teaches us to take time to replenish ourselves
eagle teaches us to look ahead and to offer up prayers
coyote reminds us to snigger at ourselves
We do not inhabit Mother Earth alone. We share her with the various species of two and 4-leggeds, things that swim, crawl, and fly, and, things of the Spirit that we do not at all times understand. But when we join our voice in prayer with the heartbeat of Mom Earth, we are going to discover extra stability and concord in all areas of our life. Hear! Do you hear the beat of her heart?
Concerning the Abenaki Individuals

They were a charitable People and when the hunt was profitable or the harvest ample, it was shared amongst all of the People.
