Weird Orchids Or What?

My Husband Grows Some Bizarre Orchids
If you consider an orchid, what picture races into your mind? A "corsage-sort" orchid, proper? Properly, I am here to inform you, my husband grows some orchids, that don't even LOOK like orchids, or another flower I've ever seen, for that matter.
This is one among my husband's VERY cool "WILD MAN" Orchids. Wouldn't THAT be startling, as a corsage? It's startling enough, when it blooms! The sight is indescribable - you'd need to see it yourself, to understand the intricacy of this specific gem.Normally, there are several of these that bloom on the same plant. They virtually seem like they are "strolling", if you first encounter them. I am going to bet that you have never seen considered one of THESE on the market at a nursery!
I have to say, the first time I noticed this exotic orchid bloom, it jogged my memory of a traffic sign - purple, yellow, and inexperienced!
This is a Scary Orchid...
Whenever you consider an orchid, what image races into your thoughts? A "corsage-kind" orchid, proper? Do not you assume of a big, frilly, elegant flower, that has decorated promenade gowns and Mother's Day attire for decades? I do!
Effectively, I'm here to tell you, my husband grows some orchids, that do not even LOOK like orchids, or every other flower I've ever seen, for that matter. I did not even know that so many different types of orchids existed, however in the previous couple of years I discovered that the orchid species consists of over 25,000 different types. All of them usually are not "showy", like those with which most of us are acquainted.
Take this little man, as an example. I name him our Casper the Ghost Orchid Now, just step again a bit, blur your eyes, and inform me - IS THIS NOT A INEXPERIENCED CASPER? Come on, admit it! That's exactly what he seems to be like, and never simply in a photograph, either!
He seems like he simply jumped out of some closet, and yelled BOO! - does not he? I thought he did as soon as, but my husband said he didn't!
Talk A few Bizarre Orchid!
Ah! I just love this bloom!
The primary time I noticed it, I simply laughed...it is so stunning, and totally unlike any orchid I had ever seen!
One in every of my two favourite types of orchids, this one is a Schomburgkia. What its actual name is - eludes me.
I'll have to test the tag, when it blooms once more - however, who cares? It is merely spectacular, and that unbelievable colour that you simply see within the picture, is precisely the color of that orchid, when it blooms!
By the best way, this orchid is BIG! It's as giant as my hand, and does not really resemble any of the other orchids that my husband grows.

This one does not scare me - I adore it! Discuss harking back to medieval...doesn't it make you consider knighthood? Appears to be like like he should have armor on, and be astride his mount, or one thing...
In case you actually want to know, his technical identify is...are you ready? Paphiopedilum Enzan Fruit x spicerianum. How's THAT for a moniker?
His petals just GLISTEN when they are struck by the slightest lighting, and they're really thick, not delicate, such as you would count on from an orchid. When he blooms, he blooms for a very long time, and I never cease to be amazed at his splendor!
He is really massive, too - about six or seven inches from the top of his petals, to the underside. It's at all times a pleasure, when he blooms, as his elegance decorates any room by which he is displayed.

For years, I've loved photographing and viewing my husband's orchids. He appears to have a special touch, in the case of rising even probably the most difficult ones. Based on him, it isn't that onerous to grow them. Well, I thought it would be a good suggestion to add some "How to Grow Orchids" options for you, just in case he is understating the information.
Amazon has a number of choices; we have now added a number of books about orchids, to get you began. Right here is the first one...
Take no offense - this is a GOOD e book. Many of the "For Dummies" books are great!
I freely admit, that I'm a "dummy" relating to rising orchids, however my husband is a seasoned expert. In line with him, MANY orchids are very simple to grow.
The Little "Sweet-Striped Duck Orchid"...
Okay, there IS no such thing - but I believe this orchid seems to be like just a little duck. Cannot you see its bill? In case you allow your imagination to run wild a bit, you may just see the resemblance to Daffy Duck, the sarcastic cartoon duck.
The orchid's bloom is actually small, but if you stand up near it, you'll be able to see how intricate it's. I all the time feel like it is just about ready to start out talking to me....but, it by no means has.

For "the lifetime of me", these stripes remind me of the sweet-stripers, who volunteered on the hospitals - do you see it? I'll wager that you simply didn't know any orchids seemed like this little fellow!

Japanese Warrior Required Orchid...
These delicate little, profusely blooming beauties are called Japanese Wind or Japanese Warrior Orchids. Now we have a number of that bloom with white flowers, and a few which might be a lovely shade of purple.
My husband advised me that as a way to complete Samurai warrior training, each Japanese warrior had to efficiently develop these orchids.
I perceive why! They don't seem to be the simplest orchid to develop, but once you efficiently do it, they'll perfume your evenings with an aroma that smells like it's a cross between jasmine, and gardenia. They solely emit that intoxicating fragrance as soon as the solar has retired, and once you have skilled it - you will always remember it!
This Orchid is Rarely Seen...
I've only seen one - THIS one!
One rare, delicate magnificence, that does NOT appear like an orchid.
Just like the Japanese Wind Orchids, this orchid is also a troublesome one to get to bloom, so - only a few individuals are familiar with it.
The orchid virtually makes one feel like they are viewing a flower that's "shy", it's so petite, and refined.
You probably will never see certainly one of these on the market at your native nursery. They're fairly rare, and I really feel privileged to have seen it.
I believe it is simply lovely - not showy or frilly, not breath-taking or attractive - but beautiful.
Pulpit Orchids
Nicely, that's what they look like to me!

Sure, It Is an Orchid!

The tan petals are so l-n-g, and rippled - they appear like they should be on a flowery costume. When it blooms, that intense sunshine yellow and the icy pink are just shocking, to say the least.
Very few people know that this is an orchid, but we do, don't we?
This one is definitely referred to as a Schomburgkia. I have no idea the entire botanical title for it, however that is the species to which it belongs. That species is one in all my favorites, as the flowers are so very distinctive. The blooms final for a number of days, and they are ALWAYS a delight to see.
I see somewhat "person" in the heart of this one, do you?

Why Not Develop Your Personal Orchids?
Lengthy, Lean, and Pretty!
If it seems to you that these lengthy orchids have been photographed over the tub, they were! I had to get them in the correct lighting.
They are quite a lot of Bulbophyllum, called Bulbophyllum Longissima. That's about all I do know, besides that they are one of many longest orchids I have ever seen.
Some orchids bloom on the end of an extended stem, but these specific orchids are very sociable, and at all times bloom in a "bunch". That enhances their elegance, nevertheless it makes them difficult to photograph!

This "Butterfly Orchid" Shocked Me!
If I wish to keep my job, as "Orchid Spotter", I've to go try the entire orchids which can be hanging in the bushes, periodically.
One afternoon, after performing my rounds, I was just about able to return inside, when I decided to look beneath the canopy of leaves, to see if any orchids had blown down.
Oh, my goodness! THIS orchid was blooming, proper up out of its pot setting on the ground, and "like to" scare me out of my mind! I did not know my husband even HAD an orchid that looked like this. I did not think something seemed like this...nicely. it does!
I have also been "honored" to be chosen because the "Critter Spotter" of the family - a doubtful honor at greatest. I seem to see every creeping, crawling, wriggling, slithering creature that graces our domicile. Once I saw this one, I was pretty certain that I had spotted an orchid AND a critter! Don't you think it is bizarre?
The Fan Orchid, that Revived Me!
After the harrowing experience I had, recognizing the "Butterfly Orchid" above, I had to be revived. What better implement, than another orchid?
These darling beauties look just like a fan, when they bloom, and imagine you ME, they came in helpful THAT day!
Delicate or not, they served their function. So, we misplaced a few blooms with the entire frantic "waving them round" that I did - they'll develop again.
It was purely a miracle that I even noticed that they were in bloom! After I noticed that terrifying orchid above, I really did not need to see if the rest was blooming - I just wanted to get indoors!
How to Grow an Orchid...
Don't ask me - I don't have a clue! I just watch my unbelievable husband do it, with apparent ease. I by no means see him poring through orchid books, or researching "Methods to Look after Orchids" online. However, the man has a knack for rising spectacular orchids - in the rough!
For those who protecting scrolling down the page, you will notice that I've put some books right here, from Amazon, that will train you step-by-step, tips on how to easily develop orchids, yourself! I have not tried doing that, however my husband has been doing it for years, with ease. If he can do it, so can you!
