China To Banish 'Weird' International Names For Residential Compounds

China to banish 'bizarre' overseas names for residential compounds
BEIJING China will search to root out geographic names which can be overseas and "bizarre", particularly for residential compounds, state media quoted the civil affairs minister as saying on Tuesday.
Minister Li Liguo stated China will "stem irregularities in naming the country's roads, bridges, buildings, and residential compounds, targeting arbitrary makes use of of overseas and bizarre names", Xinhua information agency mentioned.
"Certain varieties of names can be targeted, together with names that damage sovereignty and nationwide dignity, names that violate the socialist core values and standard morality and names that induce probably the most public complaints," it paraphrased Li as saying.

As China has modernized and opened additional to the surface world, such overseas names have become fashionable, especially for upscale residential compounds, as a means of showing the people who dwell there are worldwide and complicated.
