It was a busy morning, about eight:30, when an aged gentleman, in all probability in his 80s, arrived to have stitches faraway from his thumb. He stated he was in a rush as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.I took his very important signs and had him take a seat, knowing it could be over an hour before somebody would to in a position to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and determined, since I was not busy with one other patient, I'd consider his wound. On examining , it was properly healed, so I talked to one of the docs, received the needed provides to remove his sutures and redress his wound.
Whereas taking care of his wound, I requested him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.
The gentleman instructed me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast along with his spouse. I inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.
As we talked, I asked if she can be upset if he was a bit late.
He replied that she now not knew who he was, that she had not acknowledged him in five years now.
I was shocked, and asked him, 'And you still go each morning, despite the fact that she does not know who you might be?'
He smiled as he patted my hand and stated, 'She does not know me, however I still know who she is.'
I had to maintain back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought,'That's the form of love I need in my life.'
Real love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, shall be, and will not be.

True love is certainly life's most precious gift. Those who have it are really blessed - like the outdated gentleman's spouse in the story.
